  1. I guess the wages aren't brilliant working on the ship, however the amount of tips top up that level
  2. @3Sisters that certainly would have been a talking point once you got home to friends and family.
  3. I love a game of chess. I'm teaching it to my son at the moment. Helps you concentrate and think ahead.
  4. @Kendall James-Vargas I thought it strange when I read that
  5. That would be heart breaking in itself. The cruise ship is waiting to welcome you and you can't even get there
  6. Yes that's true. The age old mantra they probably will be getting through to workers is sell, sell and sell again. So overall, they may even sneak past the profit margins
  7. And not only that, you are missing the fantastic views that you will always have memories from.
  8. @FJB@Woody14 that's really interesting. You dont tend to think about how much they need to fill before they break even
  9. @FJB so would they be operating at a loss would you think if they don't fill the ships?
  10. @LukeJ ok I agree to a degree. I guess it does have its pluses as well as it's negatives but having a break away from the rigamarole of the world is a holiday in itself.
  11. Having a discussion with friends in regards to cruise holidays, and one asked whether cruise lines are sailing at full capacity. I understand the closer to the date of sailing, if there are empty rooms then they can put deals in place, but are there many ships that wouldn't have filled the capacity?
  12. What a way to get married. Fantastic settings, and spectacular surroundings will make it a day to remember forever.
  13. @TheLastBaronW yes I agree it would have been like the Poseidon adventure. You think things like this could only exist in movies.
  14. Personally it never occured to me that pets are allowed on ships
  15. I personally look forward to having a break from the internet. With all the bars, events and places to see, it will be relaxing to get away from all the world
  16. The wife would certainly enjoy something like that. Not sure if you could drag me on it though
  17. @Kendall James-Vargasis there a percentage that is required for the amount you tip. In the UK, it's not compulsory to tip even though we do if we had good service, but it's down to the individual on how much they give. I heard in the US tend to tip 20%?
  18. @3SistersOslo or Geiranger looks above spectacular
  19. @3SistersI second that. If everything is done for you, then half the frustration is minimal
  20. @3SistersI agree but I was thinking more of being let down by the companies. Build up your enthusiasm to be cancelled
  21. @Kendall James-VargasI don't like it when pets are allowed to go into some restaurants. I understand to stay outside in beer garden etc, but inside I really don't like that. So on a cruise is a big no no
  22. @Jim LambI totally agree with you. In my opinion, no pets should be allowed anywhere on the ship. Surely you can enjoy yourself for a week or so without your pets with you. I'm not the biggest animal person, but I would like to enjoy myself without having animals around you.
  23. @FJBI didn't realise that cruise companies owned hotels too, but it makes sense in the grand scheme of things. It certainly makes planning a little easier if you can do it all through one company.
