Single passenger

Recommended Posts

@Barbara Davis Carnival Cruise Line definitly allows for solo cruise guests to cruise onboard! I agree that the cost normally about doubles when cruising with a single guest onboard CCL. I do realize that in order to optimize monetary gain, Carnival Cruise Line has staterooms that accommodate a maximum capacity of four guests. Thinking from the cruise line's perspective, I agree that creating staterooms that can accommodate more guests is overall most beneficial. Would you be opposed to cruising with another line? There are many other lines with better options for solo cruise guests. I also know that @euroguy may have some insight here.

@Barbara Davis hello Barbara I too am a solo cruiser.  Couple of the newer CCL ships are fitted with solo cruiser cabins but they have been slow to materialize to other ships as the ship needs to be dry docked to make such changes.

One thing to always make sure to do is select only 1 passenger will be traveling in the cabin and you won't have to pay double port fees and taxes. Depending on the cruise thise can get up there. I just booked my Alaska cruise and saved $250 by doing that.  I do receive a lot of free cabin offers which each offer includes different perks at different cabin rates. I do a comparison on thos perks as many say for example on this special you can have UP TO xyz $ for ABC. I always look for the biggest bang as as a solo cruiser you will receive the maximum amount of the offer. Example balcony cabin 7 days for $1200 and UP TO $750 on board ship credit. Yes you would get the max amount of $750 as ship credit. From that point you have several options what to do with it. #1 book some shore excursion through CCL #2 book specialty dining or classes on board #3 use for both excursions and specialy dining up or #4 just let it sit there on your account and let it pay for anything you might of charged to your sail and sign card, drinks, gratuity what knot.

Basically it's free money to do as you please and being a solo cruiser it can go a long ways.  My recent cruise in April I had $500 free casino $ and $750 on board ship credit. The $750 credit covered all my shore excursions and specialty dinning and ship gratuities as well as my bubbles card for a week. And I only paid $1050 for a week in a balcony.  Deals can be had but you need to be smart about the choices.

It has been discussed that CCL is in process of revamping the loyalty program soon and it might have some perks for solo cruisers but no official word yet.

I hope this helps and happy sailing

I agree, because I have this same problem. The way I resolve it though is I bless someone who I know, like, and can tolerate being around for the duration of my trip and I bring them along. If I really like and love you as I do my granddaughter I pay for your everything but if you are my aunt or something like that then you need to purchase your own airfare and bring your own spending money and for friends it's based off there final situation how much of a gift outside the free cruise I will give you. This way I feel like my money is well spent but I would really like to only pay for myself. Carnival needs to get up to speed with this because some of its competitors have single room pricing I have just always sailed with Carnival and I am afraid to go with another company.

@Barbara Davis I'm hopeful that once Carnival Cruise Line announces some of its loyalty changes, solo cruisers will be positively impacted. Lots of loyalty members have been providing feedback on the disadvantage solo cruise guests have in terms of earning points and paying a double occupant price. I expect to see changes for solo cruise guests in the near future as it seems there has been a larger group of solo cruisers speaking up on this matter.

@euroguy Thanks for your insight here!

@Joey That's a really nice thing to do! If you are paying double occupant prices, you might as well have another occupant tag along! You are a great friend and family member; I doubt this crosses the mind of most. You are truly a generous person! Yes, I hear you; Carnival Cruise Line has to keep up with its competitors in this arena. At this point, solo cruisers are beginning to look elsewhere for a more reasonable cruise experience.
