PaulB Posted January 3, 2023 Posted January 3, 2023 On my bucket list is one day I wish to go on a cruise to the fjords. To go exploring on the islands and see the fjords in its whole spectacular is something I can only wish to see. Has anyone been there, and is it as fabulous as it looks? Quote
Kendall James-Vargas Posted January 3, 2023 Posted January 3, 2023 @PaulB I have not explored the fjords before but surely they are majestic! I would say that is on my bucket list of things to explore as well. Quote
PaulB Posted January 4, 2023 Author Posted January 4, 2023 Let's keep an eye out to see if there is any packages for this Quote
3Sisters Posted January 4, 2023 Posted January 4, 2023 (edited) @PaulBKeep an eye out for some reasonable prices! From my experience, prices tend to peak during the summer time. I have also noticed an increase in cruise fares lately, so keeping watch for a good deal is a smart idea! Edited January 4, 2023 by 3Sisters Quote
PaulB Posted January 4, 2023 Author Posted January 4, 2023 @3Sisterswill let you know if I get something Quote
3Sisters Posted January 6, 2023 Posted January 6, 2023 @PaulB Please do let me know. I would say if you find a good rate book it! Most cruise lines have a good refund policy, if you change your mind. Just make sure you check out the refund timeframe. I think most cruise lines will refund in full within 3 month prior to embarking. Quote
PaulB Posted January 6, 2023 Author Posted January 6, 2023 @3Sisterssince I've mentioned it on here, I've been looking more and more into it. It's definitely in the top 10 of my bucket list. Quote
Traveling nana Posted January 7, 2023 Posted January 7, 2023 I’m booked on the Star June 12 for Northern Norway and Iceland. On cruise critic I noticed a number of people also booked the Scotland to Norway So they are doing the whole coast. The southern half has the best fjords and northern known for hiking and northern lights. We did fjords in Alaska- did Airbnb and booked day cruises. 1 Quote
3Sisters Posted January 9, 2023 Posted January 9, 2023 @PaulB That's awesome! What is the typical departure port for the fjords? I actually haven't sailed there before. @Traveling nana Where will you be departing from in Norway? I'm curious what departure ports to look into that would take me to the fjords. Thanks for sharing that information! I think I would love to start with the southern half. Quote
Kendall James-Vargas Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 @Traveling nana What an incredible experience! Did you bring your own gear with you for hiking or was it provided? @3Sisters I have found many fjord options that depart from Norway. I also found that cruising this area is at peak season June to August. Quote
PaulB Posted January 10, 2023 Author Posted January 10, 2023 @3SistersOslo or Geiranger looks above spectacular 1 Quote
LukeJ Posted January 11, 2023 Posted January 11, 2023 Oslo is the most beautiful place. You will absolutely love it there. 1 Quote
3Sisters Posted January 11, 2023 Posted January 11, 2023 @LukeJ Thanks for the recommendation. I just looked up Oslo, and I didn't realize it is also a choice destination for snow skiing. Almost all of the major cruise lines sail from the port in Oslo. I had no idea the area offered so many options! Quote
LukeJ Posted January 12, 2023 Posted January 12, 2023 The largest ski resort in Oslo is Skimore and has 14 slopes. And it's close to the city centre. Quote
Kendall James-Vargas Posted January 12, 2023 Posted January 12, 2023 @LukeJ This could become the most epic vacation! Arriving in Oslo by plane, staying at Skimore for a few nights to ski, and then hop on a cruise to the fjords! Have you stayed at this resort before? Quote
LukeJ Posted January 12, 2023 Posted January 12, 2023 @Kendall James-Vargas I haven't personally but a few friends have and they have bragged it up, and the photos are pretty epic to match Quote
Kendall James-Vargas Posted January 13, 2023 Posted January 13, 2023 @LukeJ I'm sure they are! I will be attempting to ski for the first time in Steamboat, Colorado. We will see how that goes. It's such an expensive hobby! I may end up just purchasing used gear because renting it is such as waste! Quote
LukeJ Posted January 13, 2023 Posted January 13, 2023 Oh it is a very expensive hobby. Best to stick to chess Quote
Kendall James-Vargas Posted January 13, 2023 Posted January 13, 2023 @LukeJ That's a totally different skill set, but I do enjoy playing chess. I actually was in chess club in first grade. Maybe it's time I pick it back up! Quote
LukeJ Posted January 13, 2023 Posted January 13, 2023 @Kendall James-Vargasthe Queen's gambit opening move? Quote
Kendall James-Vargas Posted January 16, 2023 Posted January 16, 2023 @LukeJ I had to google this. That's how long it has been since I have played chess! I have actually deemed Sunday nights as "Family Board Game Night." Your inspiration will have me bringing out chess next Sunday! Quote
LukeJ Posted January 17, 2023 Posted January 17, 2023 It's one of those games that can be both frustrating and soothing at the same time. Keeps your brain active and also passes the time nicely over a glass of wine. Quote
PaulB Posted January 17, 2023 Author Posted January 17, 2023 I love a game of chess. I'm teaching it to my son at the moment. Helps you concentrate and think ahead. Quote
Kendall James-Vargas Posted January 17, 2023 Posted January 17, 2023 I always prefer a game of strategy over a game of chance. The cruise slot machines definitely aren't for me. I do enjoy a game of Black Jack, but I don't gamble. Quote
