  1. I'll bet all ports charge passengers for the privilege of being there. It's called PORT FEES on your cruise ship statement. Bermuda has taken it to a new level. If you feel that Bermuda is extreme, you might want to skip the Panama Canal.
  2. I happened across it while channel surfing. The ship looked good, otherwise this is just another staged / scripted 'reality' show.
  3. All the cruise companies actively monitoring any hurricane. They certainly have no desire to have a catastrophe. The Coast Guard has specific criteria for port closures as does the FAA for airports. Yep, cruise lines hold off a decision as long as possible until it is obvious. What I’ve seen in the past, when a port is closed, ships wander around off shore until the port reopens. The next cruise is shortened. Haven’t seen the next cruise cancelled (yet). Good to have bought cruise protection, especially during hurricane season. Hurricane season is a big reason why September cruises are so cheap.
  4. I typically just let them bill it to my on board account. They haven't missed yet, so nothing to worry about there, lol.
  5. Merriam-Webster Definition of gratuity - something given voluntarily or beyond obligation usually for some service My preference would be for how it was. Cruise ships gratuities have become a service fee rather than an inducement for outstanding personal service. So now, the expectation is to pay the fee because the crew is counting on it and also tip for extraordinary service. Essentially, the cruise lines have found a way to separate out crew pay from the fare, so that fare quotes are lower (just like port fees and taxes)! How many people actually go to customer service and request removing the service fee / gratuity? I'd bet very few.
  6. Carnival Corp already has LNG ships operating, nothing unique here for Princess. There is no difference in passenger experience. LNG is a cleaner burning fuel, less polluting than oil, but they are both fossil fuels; which may be important to some. LNG is stored under pressure and there is a potential for accidental explosions. Hopefully the designers have mitigated this possibility and the crew is well trained in LNG safety. Having said all that, I've cruised on Mardi Gras, unconcerned about the fuel! I'll have more concern if / when they switch to hydrogen.
  7. Yes and yes. The handicap hang tag allows you to park in a handicap space, nothing more, assuming a space is available. Demand exceeds supply. You might be thinking of this, from the Port Canaveral website: Disabled Parking DISABLED PARKING spaces are available, and the fee is waived for vehicles transporting certain persons who have disabilities that: • Have special equipment, such as ramps, lifts, foot or hand controls for use by a disabled person OR • Display a Florida Toll Exemption Permit as explained in s. 316.1964, Florida Statutes OR • Display a Florida Disabled Veteran (DV) license plate issued under s. 320.084; s. 320.0842; or s. 320.0845, Florida Statutes. Parking agents will not grant parking waivers for any other reason than the ones listed above. I'm not sure if other ports have a similar policy.
  8. Google maps says that's a 80 to 90 mile drive. Two of you each drive a car with 2 passengers & park at the Port. Split expenses and have control over your transport. Or, contact your local limo service and spend much more.
  9. Yep, I concur. With 4 cruises since 9/2021, 2 Carnival & 2 Princess, it's obvious that the cruise lines are currently all about maximizing profits. The food on ALL 4 cruises was poor quality, poor selection, and child size portions. I've decided to forego any more cruising until some time this Fall, when demand drops and staffing hopefully improves. On my last Carnival cruise (3/22) I was surprised to hear the cruise director publically lament the understaffing on the ship.
  10. Maybe in about 15 / 20 years. Consider taking Amtrak to Port Canaveral! Yep, Mardi Gras is a much nicer ship than the old Glory.
  11. MS Jubilee was scrapped in 2017. Wikipedia has a history of the ship.
  12. Specific to bottles of alcohol, the cruise ship collects these when you reboard. You collect the bottles the last night of the cruise. Obviously, you can't bring contraband (illegal drugs, weapons, etc.) on board. You may want to ask at the ship Guest Services about any questionable items. Everyone is screened during reboarding, which includes scanners.
  13. For my March 2022 cruise on Carnival Paradise, I was tested at Walgreens (3 days before cruise), no charge to me. And yes, Carnival accepted the Walgreens test. I'm not up to speed on any changes to Carnival protocol since then.
  14. complete! good luck & you're welcome
  15. I always have my CPAP machine in carry on luggage and bring my own extension cord. For many cabins (and motel rooms), the nearest outlet seems to always be across from the foot of the bed; on cruise ships it's typically at the desk. I do not take the humidifier and have not had an issue with 'drying out'. Obviously this is a personal choice. I believe ocean air is rather humid to start with. Just too much hassle for me to lug around the humidifier and also source distilled water (yes, it can be bought on board). I set up the machine each night and put it away each morning, mainly to keep the cabin attendant from tripping over the cord or knocking it around as they clean.
  16. Perhaps you need to look into the details of the state law, such as what remedies you may have (aah, none), and also you may want to consider what authority the State of Florida has over a foreign flagged vessel that is subject to international and Federal rules and regulations, especially when the State regulations conflict with the other regulations. I think you need more than good luck to try to force the issue. I'd bet the cruise ship lawyers are completely confident that the State has no basis for collecting a $5000 fine for each 'violation'. Some day, vaccine status criteria will become a thing of the past.
  17. It seems to me there is quite a bit of detail surrounding exemptions and that these periodically change. Please review the cruise line protocols. For Carnival these are at: https://www.carnival.com/Legal/covid-19-legal-notices/covid-19-guest-protocols?icid=advisory_cruisehealth_040122 The page has a link to the application form.
  18. Walgreens or CVS, you can make an appointment via the internet
  19. Sorry for the accident, that has to put a real damper on the cruise. I've always get the vacation plan now a days. Carnival does an outstanding job of hiding the details, likely because there's so much variation. Here's what I could find beyond the marketing info: https://affinitytravelcert.com/document/pdfs/CCL_Landing.html it appears to my 'untrained eye' the accident is covered and that claims are handled by AON. Hope this helps
  20. Drink packages are a big money maker for the company (just listen to their investor quarterly report). Unless you are a heavy drinker, like 6 to 9 drinks every day, it's hard to justify. For reference, on my 3/22 Carnival cruise - Pepsi was 3.25, beer was 8.85, glass of wine at dinner 12.00, gratuity included. I think mixed drinks were under 15. I'm not sure about now, but at one time, some cruise lines required everyone to be on the same program - all either with drink package or without. Others may have more current info on that. Enjoy your cruise
  21. Carnival did away with the form. Last cruise I submitted my request via email. Include all the info they request and documentation of your shares. I think they ask for a minimum 2 week lead time to process.
