Cancelled summer cruise - no real compensation

Recommended Posts

Celebrity are 'pleased to announce' that they have ruined numerous cruises by moving a ship from Europe to the Caribbean. No doubt they are allowed to do this due to some small print buried where no one can see it. Their consolation offer is a refund or a swap to another cruise. What if you don't want or can't do another cruise? What if the refund is not good enough because all of the alternatives have now gone up substantially in cost as you booked months ago? What if you booked separate flights because you wanted to stay on for a few days in Italy after the end of the cruise ( but weren't intending spending 2 weeks there) Who is going to refund the cost of those flights? Insurance doesn't cover it and the airlines have no reason to refund?

Is the cruise line obliged to offer a better compensation package due to this cancellation and additional costs being incurred by passengers? If not I suspect they have very little chance of getting any of those passengers as customers in the future and all of those people will spread the word to others.
