Rosemary
What is the weather crossing the Pacific Ocean? Cold, Temperate? Rain in Hawaii? Thanks for any input.
Cruising Caribbean
@Rosemary It definitely depends on the time of year! Weather patterns do vary in the Pacific Ocean and it isn't always cold. Rain really just depends on the forecast but foggy/misty is to be expected oftentimes in the morning, sunrise hours. I have yet to visit Hawaii but the weather really depends on what season you are cruising. I noticed your title states your itinerary is in December. This time of year can get nippy but it's not a notorious rainy season. I would pack one lightweight rain jacket and some sweaters, particularly for the morning/afternoon hours. Miss Lizzie
I have been on the round trip LA to Hawaii in late October. It was fantastic. Now we hit a nice squall right after midnight the first night, but after that it was beautiful, but a little windy near the bow. Hawaii was gorgeous the entire time.
Kendall James-Vargas
@Rosemary When are you thinking to cross the Pacific? Weather can be bright and sunny much of the year with intermittent foggy patterns. A light jacket is a must any time of year, but there are times of the year that cool off significantly. That would be the November to February months give or take. Hawaii is typically warm and tropical. @Miss Lizzie October sounds like a great time of year right before the winter months. Hawaii holds its heat a lot longer than California. Sometimes those summer months can be a bit too hot for some, so I like that you recommended October. I would choose that time of year too! Thanks for your input. Thanks for your input. I was stationed there in the Navy for 4 years, fall month are cooler. My husband was in the Navy also and has been to Hawaii many times but brags never by way of the airport, so we had to do the cruise from LA. He said it was much more fun than a Navy ship. 😆 We are looking at doing many more after we retire. I think there's one out of San Diego were my son lives.
Cruising Caribbean
@Miss Lizzie Thank you for your service! I can imagine traveling to Hawaii with work versus pleasure on a work trip had to have been a totally different experience! I have been wanting to do an itinerary like this, and I think I will be able to in due time. What cruise line do you prefer? San Diego is a great embarkation port for a Hawaiian itinerary. It's pretty much a straight shot from there to Hawaii. This shot is in Kauai. The Wailua River is so scenic!

Whoever it is it has to be a round trip, or B2B. My husband will not go to the airport. Lol 1
Kendall James-Vargas
@Miss Lizzie Yes, thank you for the time you served in the Navy. I'm not an airport person either. I have TSA and I still don't like airplanes. Cruising is the best way to transport. I don't like to be bound to a chair and crammed next to someone to get somewhere. It's uncomfortable, particularly for long distances. RCL is a great choice. I would recommend that line for a Hawaiian itinerary. Do you have a ship preference or are you open to any? I like the Radiance class, I think it was the Rhapsody that made that voyage. It also has a 31 day cruise out of San Diego to Hawaii and beyond. Need to wait for retirement for that one.
Cruising Caribbean
@Miss Lizzie I don't blame your husband. Flying gets old quickly. Also, it's not cheap to fly anymore. The idea of paying for suitcases annoys me so much. The 31-day Hawaii and beyond would be worth saving for! It looks like you could cruise out of Vancouver for those itineraries too. Have you cruised out of Vancouver before? It's a prime embarkation port for Alaskan itineraries as well. Is retirement season getting close for you? The idea of not working it's a great one to look forward to.
