What are these themes?

Recommended Posts

@Andrew That's a great question! Themes onboard can be very ambiguous. CCL has some really fun themed nights for its guests. https://www.cruisehive.com/carnival-cruise-line-shares-list-of-theme-parties/105079

I haven't participated in these parties with CCL before, but I can assume the Getaway Island Party is a tropical theme! Island style would be more suitable this evening like a Hawaiian shirt or bright floral patterns. For Northern Lights, I would go for a glittering, shiny, shimmery, silky, or sparkly look!

@euroguy I have missed you on the boards! Glad you are back.

@Andrew I love the themed nights. For the Great Alaska Bash, I would try to go with a fur or faux fur accessory, a flannel or plaid shirt with a pair of boots would be appropriate. Many guests may not dress up for this one, but a little northern flair is always a good look. A plaid or checkered button-down with jeans would be perfect for this themed night.

@euroguy Who is counting? It's certainly not you. After your heavy workload, I'm sure you are really looking forward to this Alaskan cruise! Have you cruised to Alaska before? As you can tell by my name, I mainly cruise the Caribbean, but Alaska is a big dream cruise for me! This time of year will make for a lovely Alaskan cruise, but make sure you watch for bears. My brother was just there working seasonally at a hatchery, and he encountered serval on his hikes. Apparently, they were very docile because the food was plentiful but I saw photos and he was within arm's distance of them. I almost had a panic attack after seeing these photos. I do not recommend getting near a bear at all!

@Cruising Caribbean much like you I have mostly been to warm ports and alaska has been on my list of must does as at some point cruises may not go any longer due to environmental issues. So finally i'm pulling the trigger and going for the 1st time ...and CCL of course provided an offer couldn't refuse as well 😆 bears are so fuzzy cuddly I don't see the problem hehehehe

@euroguy I'm so excited for you that you get to experience your first Alaskan cruise! I can't wait to hear all about it and the review. I have a feeling you won't want to go back for the other ports anymore. You chose the right time of year to experience Alaska, and this is definitely going to be a trip to remember. You got to love when CCL comes through for you like that. Will your personal assistant be getting you on some epic excursions this time around? The grizzly bears just scare me to death! They are lovely to look at but so dangerous at the same time. I'm no match for a grizzly bear.

@Cruising Caribbean you are correct by say its pretty good time to go to Alaska #1 schools are back in session so less youngsters, not that I a problem with them but will be a little less caos and more adults #2 less mosquitoes #3 still in whale season #4 not snow season #5 right before the season transition.

Regarding my CCL personal assistant she has been great keeping in touch with me and set up a helicopter ride in Ketchican  to see a special waterfall and land on top of a mountain to take in the views for about 20 minutes. At the top no buildings or any people just spectacular views and serenity of nature. Then Juneau I'm on a private boat to go see humpback whales and with a little luck some orcas. I have not decided yet whats for Skagway...maybe a trip across the Canadian boarder to the Yukon.

As for.the bears most trips don't seem worth it as you're very far from them and have to use a telescope to get a decent view... I have probably been closer to a grizzly in a zoo...lol but there is a jet boat that goes up a river to the grizzly feeding grounds which may be so so.

I certainly will post as always a run down of my trip rwgarding ship, food, excursions and overall experience with few pics so others know what to expect and look forward to.

Another note regarding my CCL personal assistant she has been great and we are in discussions about my future cruise in March or April. I'm thinking to wait and see what new spectacular offers they present after my upcoming Alaska cruise.

@euroguy Wow, I didn't even think about all of these factors. Thanks for laying it out like this. I can tell, as always, you have done your thorough research! A helicopter ride over waterfalls sounds absolutely amazing! I love that your CCL personal assistant is still working hard to give you some more epic cruise vacations. You can't do wrong with venturing into Canada. I'm so glad you already have any of your activities already planned out. Can your personal assistant score you sometime in the thermal suites too?

I love seeing your photo reviews! I hope you enjoy your time in the casino and have great success. I spent extra on some bingo cards to play onboard my last cruise and thought of you. I still felt so intimidated by the casino and playing the slots, but I did not shy away from the bar. The casino bar is always one of the most lively onboard.

@Cruising Caribbean i literally smiled and laughed outloud when i read about you buying few exta bingo cards and thought of me .... you crack me up and find it most amuzing that of all people i would be the one to cross your mind... 🤣 I suppose that I have impacted your life in some way...hopefully in a positive way.. next time instead of spending an extra $20-40 on bingo cards try a slot instead...live on the wild side 😜

What trip/ship did you just go on??

You are accurate when you say I do a lot of research prior to sailing date so I can always have an epic trip... sometimes to much that I drive myself crazy looking at all the options and possibilities.  I had a really hard time for Skagway to decide what I wanted to do as we dock for 13 hours and so much to see and the excursions I could find from both CCL and Private left a lot of missed items that imop are must see's and I'm sure I drove my CCL personal assistant to need counseling session 😆 ultimately she helped me get a steal of a deal for a rental car for 12 hours for $150 vs $250 and it will be at the port waiting my arrival so I can simply walk off the ship and directly to the car.  It's basically 1 hwy with virtually no other roads. She was able to get me a map with literally a step by step mile by mile to all the destinations (pictures attached)  I will be seeing so much more than any others going a ways into the yukon and it will o ly take me maybe 5 hours round trip getting me back to town/ship around 1-2 pm, ship leaves at 8 pm so that means I will also have tons of time to visit plenty of shops/sights in skagway itself. Basically I get to pretty much see everything for less than what other excursions charge more to see so much less and I won't be cramed into a bus waiting for others and being part of a cattle call. I can stop when and where I want for as long or short as I want at each stop, so if one turns out to interest me more I can spend more time and vice versa.

Ok this is turning out to be very long, you might need to take a nap mid way through

@euroguy Yes, you absolutely have! I enjoy reading your perspectives on the boards. From lots of humor and info, it's certainly a good time to read your posts.

I'm so impressed by all of the planning you and your CCL assistant have done to create such an epic cruise-out situation. It's very impressive how detailed you are. I love the step by step mile by mile plan! You are certainly putting your assistant to work. I'm sure having you onboard is worth her while. I'm so glad you won't have to be crammed in a bus like everyone else. You deserve that VIP treatment. I also love that you have all of the details mapped out already. Once you get onboard you will not have to worry about a thing because you took care of it all on the backend.

Also, I hope there are no bear photos with you in them unless the bear is in an enclosure! I hope you bring a pair of binoculars on your trip. I bet you will see loads of wildlife, and I can't wait to read your review. When are you cruising out again? I think you only have like 10 days left now!
