Barton FirstyAlice1948
I just returned from a cruise on the New Sun Princess. The ship is beautiful and the trip was wonderful until the last day at sea. At that time both my daughter and I came down with covid. We reported it to the medical staff and they recommended we quarantine together in one room. My wife and other daughter were in another room. My wife and daughter spent the whole day going back and forth to customer services trying to arrange to cancel our fight home and schedule another flight. Unfortunately Princess has no procedure in place to deal with covid related problems. It took my wife several times to get them to cancel the original flight home. Princess said they could not help us with another flight home and we would not receive any credit from our original booking towards air fare. Eventually, after a lot of complaining, we were able to find seats on anther airline in the last row for $1000 dollars a ticket. Even though the customer service people were nice they had no idea how to help us. I have been on 5 Princess cruses but I will not go on any more because of this incident. It has been a week since the cruise ended and I have not received my detail list of charges during the trip. In previous cruises we had a list of charges before we left the ship. If this is a new policy it is not working.
FJB
Why would you cancel a flight because of Covid? Did you have seriously bad symptoms, deathly ill, etc? Otherwise it’s nothing more than a cold. Wear a mask and get on the flight so you can be at home where you would be more comfortable resting and recovering. Just my opinion.
Woody14
did you book the original flights through princess?
3Sisters
@Barton FirstyAlice1948 I also wonder who you booked your original flights with. Unless you booked those flights through Princess Cruises, I don't see why Princess Cruises would be responsible for this. I agree that nowadays it's not necessary to cancel trips/flights over an illness. I would have likely masked and flown in order to avoid all of that chaos you had to experience. Also, quarantining in a stateroom all together while on vacation actually sounds awful! That's such an upsetting way to have to cruise. @FJB I would have taken the flight too with a mask. I would have wanted to get home too. @Woody14 I was thinking the same!

Cruising Caribbean
@Barton FirstyAlice1948 I see how that could be frustrating, but it seems the keeping the original flight would have been the best option. I'm interested to hear more details. I would be frustrated with the line too, but I wouldn't expect them to fork out the flight money unless you booked through Princess Cruises initially. I have the same question as @Woody14.
