Steve4Life Posted August 10 Posted August 10 My wife and I are taking our first cruise in October. We are stopping in Cozumel. We have one shore excursion, but afterwards we will have a few hours until our ship departs. We would like to explore a little. Any advice on how we can get out of main city and go to the other side of the island as quickly and cheaply as possible? 2 Quote

The last time we did this, the roads were very rough. Seems to me it took more than 30 minutes one way. There’s not a lot to see on the other side of the island except a rocky coast and one or two bars with a small beach. I suggest you stay in town and maybe go one or 2 streets over from Main Street to find a local bar/restaurant to have some authentic Mexican food. That is if your are feeling adventurous. 1 Quote
Cruising Caribbean Posted August 13 Posted August 13 @Steve4Life I recommend just meandering on your own. Just exploring the port side area is quite nice, and you won't have to go far from the ship. Taxi is another easy option to explore, but I wouldn't recommend over extending your time out. Sometimes just getting back before he crowd is better than having to rush back onboard. Taxi prices aren't bad. You will need both one to and one from the port. @FJB That's good insight. I agree that the other side isn't that eventful. There are more things to do near the port that you may enjoy more. Quote
Kendall James-Vargas Posted August 15 Posted August 15 @Steve4Life I have to second that I don't think venturing to the other side of the island would really be worth it. Unless you were to vent a vehicle and have the time to adventure on your own, I really don't think doing all of that driving in a time crunch would be the best idea when the area offers other fun close to port amenities. Touring the city yourself is so fun, but you already have an excursion booked that will take up the majority of your port time. What excursion will you be taking while there? Quote
